I've mentioned about the love that we've encountered by where we opened the English teaching room. One woman specifically, Doi, has taken it upon it herself to be our substitute mother, and is always happy to see us, often making us food or giving us snacks. That's been humbling, because I probably get more money per month as a missionary than she does working. But she loves us. So for Mother's Day we decided to do something nice for her, so we took some time and wrote her a short note and bought her the customary Thai Mother's Day flowers. She was so touched that we did that (grinning from ear to ear), and told us that she is going to keep it forever. It was especially meaningful because none of her children did anything for her, and she told the neighbors that she could count on us to make her day special. We were touched that something so simple to us had so much meaning to her, and the joy that comes from sincere acts of service.
Many of our main investigators ended up not being able to meet this week, but we still got some good things done.
One lesson that was neat was with a woman whom we met and taught briefly last week. When we called to confirm our appointment yesterday, she told us that it wasn't really convenient to meet that day (meaning "I'm not really that interested). We asked for 20 minutes, and she agreed. We started teaching and bearing testimony, and the Spirit was there. By the end of the lesson she kept smiling, and I believe she was feeling the joy that comes from learning truth by the spirit. That was special. She invited us back next week.
I just want to share my witness of the joy that comes from following Jesus Christ. It's real (though not always easy. We still see much opposition and disappointment. So much opposition and disappointment). But it's always the best.
