Also we got baptisms this week! The sister that read the whole Book of Mormon and her two kids, it was great. After they were baptized, they were asked to speak a little bit. For a member, the topic of recent experiences and testimony is kind of implied. The eight-year-old went first, and did what we've been telling him is important and that he should do: opened with "Heavenly Father," said a few words, and closed "in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen." Then the sister's investigator went, and followed suit. Then sister เจียบ and her daughter did the same. And then the branch president called them out on it from the pulpit and said something about how we must not have instructed them correctly. Oh, Thailand. That was a funny few minutes.
We had a great FHE with a Filipino family on Monday. They teach English at school, and have been in Thailand for a couple years. During the conversation, they brought up the subject of tithing, and how it's really hard for them to pay. They told us that they really want to, but things keep coming up that make it so they can't. I thought it was going to be hard to tell them that they needed to pay tithing, because they are really struggling. We read 3 Nephi 24:10, and the Spirit rushed into the room. We promised blessings, and my companion told them to try and pay tithing before any other expenses. It was a neat lesson. At one point, they shared an experience where their son had become very sick and had to go to the hospital. They knew they couldn't pay the bill, and were surprised to find that the church had paid for it. They were so grateful for the miracle in their lives, and the spirit was very strong as they talked about it.
